My cylinder head does not look like this, but:
1. My bike is garage stored.
2. I live in S. Ca, far enough from the ocean to not suffer any effects of salt air.
3. I am anal about my bike maintenance -keep it clean and out of the rain.
However, my bike suffers corrosion damage at other locations:
1. Rear shock damper rods.
2. Engine case screw heads.
3. Brake line fittings.
4. ABS rings.
My 2014 CB1100 shows more corrosion damage than my 1998 VFR800, and they are stored in the same garage and cared for identically. I am convinced Honda took shot-cuts on this bike and cut corners to save cost.

Hey Piccio,
Mine is like that and much worse on the barrels. Quite a few people on the forum have had the same issue. Shoddy paint. :-(

Has anybody in North America had this happen on their bike? The only cases I have read about on here seem to be from Europe.

I have some minor chipping of the black paint on the edges of the fins on my 2013. Garage kept. Not worried about it too much.

Ok, must be standard across the board. Thanks.

There haven’t been as many reports of it here as there were on the old UK forum, so it does seem to me it’s affected the rest of the world more than North America.

On that defunct UK board there was talk of improper priming or surface prep at the factory and a number of those guys got fixed under warranty, IIRC.
Man, those pictures above are so big I can’t even see the posts here with really expanding the view.
