Thank you sir! Hauling the larger trunk  to get some errands done, including a Costco stop. My iPhone always makes it look bigger than it is.

You know what? I actually would like a pickle.

The CB1100 version of "Does this make my backside look big?"

There's a difference in riding a naked bike and riding a bike naked.
Won't make that mistake again.

Mrs. G is assigned to a hospital in San Diego for a few weeks. If my schedule can line up and I don’t wuss out and take the car, I might visit her and grab a few pics of the San Onofre nuclear plant along the beach south of San Clemente.

You know what? I actually would like a pickle.

Stunningly beautiful motorcycle. When you take your picture, make sure you are far enough away from the nuclear plant that your CB1100 and you do not start to glow as you drive away. Smile David

Gone's bike glows in the dark already.

Ha! The San Onofre plant has been deactivated for years. But, it's a landmark sitting at the south end of San Clemente and the north end of the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base. Riding south, it's a landmark that is a reminder that hope you have enough gas to get about 20 miles till the next available station in Oceanside. And, if it's a Saturday, traffic is probably going to come to a stop soon, so be on your guard and get ready to lane-split till Carlsbad. Riding north, it's a reminder that you're coming into civilization and if you're low on gas, you'll be able to fill up soon.

You know what? I actually would like a pickle.

The Altamont Pass Wind Farm began operations in the 1980s. Thousands of wind turbines have been setup, abandoned, dismantled, replaced, and upgraded over the decades. To the best of my knowledge, it is the single largest collection of Wind Farms in the world. As a whole, I assert the Wind Farm has done more good than harm, although wildlife suffered tremendously in the early days.

It appears that many scientists do not spend much time in nature. First-Generation Wind Turbines were setup along nesting areas and migration routes of the birds most admired in the United States. At its worst, 2,000 eagles, hawks, and owls were scraped off of turbines annually. Those issues have been addressed and now there are much fewer turbines thoughtfully located to minimize death and destructions to the very creatures we are trying to preserve and protect. The turbines have also become much bigger and far fewer in number. At its peak, there were 6,000 turbines. Today, there are less than 300.

Even with the reduced scale, more power is realized from the Altamont Pass Wind Farm now than at any other time in its history. Power geeks estimated that total power generated annual is in excess of 1.1 terawatt-hours (TWh), or about 1,100 gigawatt-hours (GWh). That provides power to approximately 50,000 homes in the East Bay.

Totally cheating in a cage today, but I did pass San Onofre nuclear power plant.

Mrs. came home from San Diego for the weekend. I drove back down there with her today so we could spend the day around the very funky neighborhood she’s working in. Plus, her brother is a planner for the San Diego Airport, and today was a soft opening for the new Terminal One which will begin operating next week. I’m now riding a train home for the week.

We were given a simulated travel itinerary and went through the motions of checking in, going through security and checking out all of the shops and restaurants before “boarding” our flight. No plane, just scanning boarding passes and then we were done. Bummer that it wasn’t real… our fake flight would have gone to Bora Bora.

This powerplant is on the Maryland side of the Potomac River, just east of the 301 bridge.  It is minimally operating now on oil and natural gas, since they quit using coal a few years ago.
