Good Morning CBers,

In response to a PM from Huladog I contacted Staintune this morning. Actually "contacted" is a little misleading in that I listened to an answering machine message. To put you in the picture; Staintune is not a "big end of town" business and is based in the New South Wales country town of [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mittagong]Mittagong (Mitta). Over Christmas they shut down for four weeks and go fishing, riding, kangaroo shooting, or whatever takes their fancy and turn their backs on the mad world of 24/7 instant communication that we take for granted. Very country Australia. Makes me kinda wistful. Really.

Understandably, that is of absolutely no comfort to Huladog who has put down his hard earned Dineros for a slip-on which has not yet appeared on the horizon. However, on the positive side, [url=http://staintune.com.au]Staintune will open for business again on the 20th January. I have made a diary entry for that date and will chase up Huladog's order at opening time on that day.

I have a Staintune fitted to my bike and, without prejudice to any other brand, would thoroughly recommend the product. Good quality, nice sound, and the size makes it easy to work around for wheel removal, chain adjustment and brake work. Worth the wait in my opinion.

From the Staintune website:

Cheers

Ditto my post on the other thread, I'm sure we all appreciate your checking on their health down under. Heck if I could shut down for four weeks I sure as heck would do it!

Aloha,
Huladog

That said, the price was definitely on the high side and it was perhaps the only thing that I can remember owning that when asked "why" by my wife I couldn't even attempt to explain. "Just because I wanted it" isn't exactly a selling point, lol.

It may not be as expensive as you think. As Cormanus and I have suggested in other threads, check the cost of a direct order from Australia as opposed to buying from the, perhaps aptly named, "Pirates Lair". The AUD (sometimes known as the South Pacific Peso) has now fallen below USD .70.

Understood. However, at that point in time, even if the can were only 1/4 what I paid for it, it would not have gone over well. Removing a perfectly good muffler from a brand new motorcycle and replacing it with anything that cost more than nothing simply did not compute for my wife. I couldn't blame her for thinking I was nuts.

Come to think of it, I'm still crazy — about my Staintune that is. Cool

By the way, it was very cool of you to check in on the Staintune situation Ptero.

Guth. Come on, you don't remove a perfectly good muffler. Just do what I did. Low-side the bike and replace a damaged muffler. Big Grin

Ptero, do me a favor while you have them on the phone ? Ask them about slip-ons for DLX and EXs please.

Chapomis, a long time ago, in a forum, far, far away there was discussion about this conundrum. I recall it went like this: because the DLX/EX never made it to Australia the poor punters at Mittagong couldn't get their hands on the exhaust system and were unable to make a slip-on for it.

You should email them. I'm sure that, if you slipped-off your mufflers and sent them to Mittagong, Staintune would be only too happy to oblige. Your DLX/EX riding companions would thank you.

Pterodactyl, you've shamed me. I should have looked at the website.

The DLX is the perfect test vehicle for a Staintune on one side and an Arrow on the other. Then the conundrum posed by the OP is closer to being resolved. Ferret, get to it mate! Smile.

Cheers

Thanks Cormanus. I do recall that far, far away thread. I must have missed the part about them not having any DLX or EXs to model from. Does anyone here have a dented or scratched one to send them ? I realize that its a small country company (i'm not calling Australia a small country) but shouldn't they be responsible for their own R&D ? I guess though that if there are only 300 to 400 DLXs in the US, I would think twice about spending the resources.
