Fuel gauge..other side of the coin
#21
Chip it'll be filled as much as humanly possible and ridden till nothings left in the tank, then we can also find out what it'll actually hold.

The first two fill ups were at 85 miles and I was flashing. Put in right about 2.5 gallons of fuel.

Now this tank, I am over 100 miles and when I get on the bike I have 2 bars and then when I start to move I have one bar. I am watching for when I get the flashing to happen so I can panic and get fuel right away. I am curious though if it will be the same 2.5 gallons like the last two times.

Yes I know I am not riding it enough, but the weather, family, and work takes all the fun out of things sometimes! Now if I had the time I would be out all the time!

Dbuster, as your motor breaks in, your mileage should be getting better. That will also make your bars stay on longer, longer time to flash etc. Seems to me it takes about 2000 miles for everything to settle down.

Really that long until everything settles down!? I better get to riding then!

My gauge has been very consistent. A bar disappears every 30-35 miles, depending on how I ride. And when the last bar starts flashing I have around 40 miles left to find a station.

Read up on capacitance fuel type sensors. It's what aviation is starting to use more and more. From experience I can say it's very accurate, of course that's dealing with a considerable amount of fuel more than the cb tank.

After having a 40 mile ride on this last tank I filled up and this time I was able to get 103 miles and when I filled up it was 2.6 gallons. Now that works out to be roughly 39 mpg...

HOWEVER, I don't think I filled it up as far as I should have as after only 2 miles the gauge dropped a bar already! So I pop the tank and look, in a better lit area, sure enough I am well below the bottom of the filler neck. So maybe I didn't put enough gas in, which only makes it worse..

Hoping for a good long season and plenty of time getting away from the family so I can ride. Only thing my 3 year old son wants me to hang out with him more and go fishing. I need to get to that magical 2000 mile point when things are broke in and settled down so I can get better mileage!!
