Price You Paid for Your CB
#21
I view Auto or Motorcycle pricing info like Salary info. Everyone acts as though what you get paid should confidential and not discussed with others. The lack of information an employee or customer has is only meant to give the other party the upper hand in the negotiation. I have no doubt the Shipping and assembly cost are there, but as I customer I don't care, it's the dealer's problem not mine. I agree with Bbref36, it should all be baked into the MSRP and not an add-on. I'm sure there are additional incentives and hold-backs the owners of the dealership gets that only they know about which factor in to the overall profit margin. After all, If they weren't making money they wouldn't sell.

When negotiating the price you're comfortable with, it's nice to have some facts to base you decision on. Things like service, relationship with the dealer are also factored in by each buyer. I would pay more for a good local dealer I could trust and have a relationship with. I would prefer there was full transparency, and the dealer said this is my cost $X and I need to make $Y on this bike. I have no problem with a dealer making money off me, that's business.

But when I go into a large corporate owned dealer, and am given the hard sell and told this is the last model left in the state, or that someone is coming in that evening to put a deposit down, then let the games begin. I encourage anyone who is willing to share their cost so that we as consumers and make and informed decision when choosing what and where to purchase from. But at the end of the day, if you're happy with what you got, when you got it, and who you got it from, that's all that matters.

I pick up my bike tomorrow and will post my bill of sale as a reference point for others. I'm thankful for all the owners in the Phoenix area who shared their info before I made my purchase.

$11.4K in October. Mine is an ABS model.

the bike was "on sale" for $9,999. Go figure! $1,400 for tax, tag, & prep.

I picked up the very first one my dealer got in (I ordered it back in September, 2012). I paid $9999 with no additional dealer fees although I did have to pay title and registration fees to the county on top of that (I believe it ran $260 all together). No sales tax here in Oregon. Dealer is great. They are located 24 miles away, they sell me parts at 20% off and everyone that I've encountered there seems to be fairly knowledgeable and very courteous.

They are currently advertising a new 2013 CB1100 for $7499 (don't know if they would wave the dealer fees for that price). That's a bit hard to swallow, but to be honest, I wouldn't trade the past 7 + months with my CB1100 for the difference in price. I've really enjoyed this bike. If I hadn't have been so fired up about it, I wouldn't have started this forum.

$7499 is insane!

The lowest list price I've seen in Maryland is $8899. Back in May when I bought mine, everyone had the non-ABS at full list. I was lucky to get in a bidding war between 2 dealers and got mine for $9749 out the door, including tax, title, tags, prep and shiping/storage (they get you in Maryland).

Regardless, I would have paid $11,000 OTD and not had any regrets.

If Honda brings the new 2014 with 6 speed and 4 into 2 pipes to the US, I'm really going to want one.

OMG - that are 5.500 Euro! Rolleyes I know that you cannot compare U.S. and German prices, but that would be nearly half of the price I paid for my CB 1100. Worship

Non ABS $9270 OTD. Dealer is a high school friend of mine, but I think it is the same for everyone. Bought last month with 0 miles.

As promised, here is my Purchase Order / Bill of Sale for my new CB1100A (ABS Model)

In Arizona, there is a Vehicle License Tax similar to Personal Property Tax in other states. You can look it up on AZMVD if you're curious. Basically, the Dealer listed their price of $9,779.11, then added Doc Fee and some extra in the Registration. So total to Dealer was $10,044.27. The rest of the $11K went to the State for Tax, Registration, and Vehicle Property Tax, Reg, Title etc....

Hope this helps others with their purchase. This was the last ABS and they werent' getting another until Jan. He also mentioned they had 4 Non-ABS modes in crates.

You can definitely get a better deal after the initial buying frenzy, but overall, I'm out the Door for MSRP so I'm happy and love the bike!

That's a great deal. I bought mine (non ABS) the first few days they were out. I paid list ($9999), so I walked out the door with about $200 less in my pocket than you did.

It really irked me that the various taxes added up to nearly $1K.

When they first arrived here in the Kansas City area back around April they were listed at $9999 for the standard model. (I don't know of any dealer ever having an ABS model). Some were purchased before they even got out of the crate. Now the dealers all seem to have at least one on the floor. The dealer I got mine from had it marked down to $8995 but by they time they added freight, dealer prep, and doc fees it came to $9660. Makes me wonder if they added all that to try and get as close to $9999 as they could for it. I don't remember new bikes I bought in the past having anything added on except the doc fee. I always thought the freight and prep was already included in the price, unlike with buying a car. I pulled out the papers on my 2007 Kawasaki KLR 650 and it was only $4770 plus $100 doc fee. List was $5199. I bought my '98 Valkyrie new from the same dealer I bought my CB from and it listed at $12,799 but I got it for $12,399 plus a $75 doc fee. Did I get screwed or are freight and prep separate fees these days?

$ 10,698 out the door.On a list of the advertised $9,999.
I complained about dealer prep and freight even before the
dealer brought it up.The dealer said just tax and title/registration
fees added.Nothing else,I liked that.I did ask when first looking
the bike over at the sales price.because it had a big price sticker
that read ... sales Price.As if maybe it was on sale.
Every bike I've bought the last 15 years { 7 to be exact }
had some little added cost.Not the CB.
I kinda felt,that maybe the bike wasn't selling well enough.
The dealer did say when asked that he's sold 3 CB's so far.
And that they had one unassembled in the crate in the back.
When I bought the bike a week later,that new in the crate CB
was gone.My dealer said it went to a car dealership.
That they had some working arrangement to do that.
hand a new motorcycle model over to a car dealership.

I will have to pay the vehicle property tax come my birth month.
There is no way in Kentucky to get around that.Do not pay
the vehicle property tax when it comes due and get no license plate
sticker,which is yearly.And the penalty for paying late runs 10%
a month and graduates.It applies on all vehicle in one's possession.
meaning even some jalopy you bought to fix up.that doesn't
even run.
(11-22-2013, 02:48 AM)Bbref36_imp Wrote: Just a comment about the shipping fee - I work at a store that sells Honda and Yamaha and I know the shipping fee is ligament. Honda charges us $340 shipping to get the bike to the store. We charge $148 to assemble the bike. We choose to add on this expense to the cost of the bike (I paid it as a shop employee) while other dealers may or may not.

This is unlike the car industry as the shipping is a normalized cost nation wide that is included on the window sticker. Frankly I wish the motorcycle industry would do that, it sucks to have to tell a prospective buyer that the MSRP of $9999 for a CB11 is actually not the price, but instead it is $500 for shipping and set up.

It sounds like people got some really good deals on the bike. I know what the dealer cost is (at least for us being a small dealer and not a Honda superstore or whatever the big Honda exclusive stores are called) and many of you paid less than I did for store cost plus $100 and shipping and set up.

Having said all of that, I would have paid full price for my bike, I absolutely love it and don't regret getting it for a minute.

Honda may indeed charge over $300 to ship the bike.But that
isn't what Honda asks the dealer for on a new bike.You'll never
truly know.it could be 20% less than the advertised price { $9,999}
It could be 25% less or maybe 17% less.Which would be
$2500 dollars off the $9,999 or $1700 dollars off.
So the dealer can still manage to alot a 10% profit margin,
given other costs like assembly and fluids and paper work.
Insurance and overhead to have a place to store the bike.
Japan isn't in the business to NOT post a profit.
Either is a dealer.Any dealer.
