I saw one of these K&N filters fail on a BMW S1000RR during a recent club race day. The unit was bleeding oil around the hex nut. Owner stated that the filter was applied by hand without putting a spanner anywhere near that hex nut. Luckily there were no issues for the rider other than to think about how much money he wasted buying the bulk pack that is now going in the trash can. I agree with LR and the others, OEM filters always ... even it means paying extra or having to drive around to pick one up.

I guess the problem here is that, one would reasonably assume that doing anything to an oil filter, which operates under some pressure, is likely to increase the risk of failure and therefore not a good idea. However, in K&N's defence, the company has been making oil filters for years and, so far as I know, has not had significant problems. People could be forgiven for trusting them. Personally, I've used them only twice when put on by other people. I removed the second the minute I got it home.
I know is not..but I meant manufacture design, not problem to K&N filter users..
and we also have discussion about this issue/problem some time ago, and some members still use/stock them, learn a lesson before becomes tragic as you said..
When I bought my new 2014CB it came with K&N and the first thing I did was to replace it with OEM right away.

I never did understand the desire to use any kind of filter other than OEM. I guess folks get caught up in the hype...

My son and I had this discussion last night when he asked me if I saw the recall by K& N. I told him all I use is OEM. He said he uses K& N. I asked him why? And he just said he liked them. My bet is he will continue to use them against my protests. Then again he is 39 and old enough to make his own decisions. Hope it doesn't come back to bite him.

Another option, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Triumph use the same filters for the most part and they are all of good quality and probably made by the same manufacturer. You really don't need to visit the local Honda dealer to get a proper oil filter.

Is not about liking but SAFETY... and buy him few for his birthday, to solve this issue peacefully

Internet friends. I don't know a lot, but that helps me to be able to UNDERSTAND.
What I mean is that it is RELATIVELY hot on the island of Oahu. Relative to Kuwait, it's quite cold here.
The point is that my CB1140 overheated one time for sure.
But, that was probably more a factor of godawful traffic than anything else.
But happily, I replaced the dirt oil the Honda shop gave it with fancy 15w50, double ester Motul oil. Ever since (3.5 years plus) my Honda has kept its cool!!
