Ok how comes nobody weighs stuff before they stick it on? Then we would KNOW how much weight is being saved.

SP Tadao declares a weight of 2,5 kg (5,5 lbs) (muffler and power box) vs the 5,6 kg (12,3 lbs) from the original muffler that's less than the half part... pretty good

I haven't verified this info but you can find it on his webpage...

So I ordered this exhaust the first week of March. I finally got it in the mail today. It was shipped right away by Samurider, it appears that there was a snafu at my local post office. Anyhoo, I hope to install it tomorrow night and I'll post my feelings and observations. I may even take some pics.

I have the twin tail on another bike but it's an option on the CB1100:

DGShannon,

I was as anxious as you to get the exhaust installed but life gets in the way so didn't get to it until this morning. I've decided not to post pics because they'll be no different the the others who have posted pics about this exhaust. Here are my observations:

Install:
Very easy to install. It took me approx. 1 hour. I put my laptop in the garage and followed the youtube video by sptadao on the install of this exhaust. At the youtube search bar type "CB1100 Power Box Install". This is the link if I copied it correctly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Clc66wQ8xIk
It's all in Japanese but the video is very well done.

Sound:
The sound is a deeper tone. It isn't obnoxious or loud, but a noticeable deeper tone than stock. In my opinion, the audio online is close but not close enough to the real sound. If possible, try to find someone with this exhaust and listen to it. Personally I like the quietness of the stock exhaust and only got the powerbox because it wasn't loud and it's smaller than the tree trunk stocker that came on the bike.

Weight:
I didn't weigh the powerbox. I'm not worried about weight. I won't be doing track days or anything like that. Once again I just wanted to get rid of the tree trunk stocker. I was a Bueller before getting the CB so I'm used to the exhaust being tucked away under the bike or at least a bit smaller. The powerbox is the most I can stand hanging out to the side without wanting to get a saws all out and doing some "mods".

Power:
I don't know yet. It's 32 degrees right now where I live so I won't be riding today. I'll post again once I've had a day or two to test it out.

Anyhoo, I like it and would recommend it to someone who wants a smaller profile exhaust and a deeper tone than the stock exhaust.

Ride On Thumbs Up

Excellent feedback. Thanks. My main objective is also the cosmetic change, and not noise. I have also owned a Buell, so I can identify with what you're saying.

So I got to take the bike out this week to check out the powerbox exhaust. All I can say is, very nice. It had a deeper throaty sound that I was expecting. Not loud and I can definitely ride all day and not get annoyed with it. It was well worth the money spent and looks great. Fit and finish is impeccable and to me, the sound level is perfect.

This may sound odd but hear me out. It actually was quieter in my helmet than the stock exhaust. Notice I said "in my helmet". I wear a full face helmet when I ride. With the stocker on the bike, I used to get a resonance of a sort inside my helmet. Just a slight deep tone buzz. I had that on my M109 bike as well with a full face helmet. With the powerbox exhaust, the first thing I noticed was that the buzz/resonance was gone. You'd think that being a little louder than the stocker that it would be just the opposite. What I've come to find out is that if you've ever done research on exhaust systems and the science behind them you soon realize that there's much more to exhaust than expended gases exiting the tailpipe. I can only assume that the resonance is still there, just at a frequency I don't notice.

Doesn't really matter much though, the exhaust sounds and looks great. Secondly, using my S.O.M.P dyno, I'm not able to tell any difference as to an increase or decrease in power. IMO the only thing that changed is the sound and there's more room on the highway without the tree trunk stocker taking up space. ROFL

In my opinion, if you want a LOUD pipe, this is not the one for you. It does have a deeper growl and is somewhat louder then the stock pipe, that's for sure but it's not that much louder. When I followed my friend on my bike in a car, I could barely hear it. I thought it was much louder from having ridden on the bike with it. Having said all that, I'm still very happy with it for the sound and the looks over stock.
