It might seem strange to learn that a 21st century machine (2006) would have risks associated with the engine when sooooooo many mid and late 20th century Japanese bikes just seem to go without fail today.

Dang, I'm about to inherit a vehicle from my father in law as well, but it's a Ford Escape that sat in a field for nine years with the windows down. That's one heck of a gift. I'm not a Harley guy, but I'd be most appreciative.

One of the reasons I sold my '05 Wide Glide. Only had 10K miles on it but the cam chain tensioner was always in the back of my mind...

Yea I had an 06 Road Glide with almost 30K, and was just waiting. Sold it and bought a Triumph Scrambler.

I have a 2004 Road King Custom , 30000 miles . Did the cam chain tentioner at about 8000 miles for peace of mind . Wasn’t that big of a deal . But did do it before heading out on a 5000 mile trip . Still love the ride on that bike , but it doesn’t get ridden much lately between having the. CB 1100 and not a strong as I used to be holding up a 720 pound bike. Still love the look and sound of her.

Good feedback guys. Thanks. Still waiting on my friends response with an offer. He’s a good guy and wouldn’t try to pawn a bike off with known problems. I know he’s been looking hard at the 2019 HD trikes and may be making room for one. Rolling stock at his place is always being rotated.

With a deal like that I'd consider a Harley. I don't need image baggage; I'd be more concerned about the ability to pick it up! And room for my legs.
A buddy has an older EVO, first year. Looks the beans and makes me consider one. For a going to coffee kinda thing.

Remember that on a Road King (and other Harley Touring bikes) the crash bars (excuse me, "engine guards") prevent the bike from falling flat on its side. It only goes over so far and rests on the crash bars. Much easier to upright than you might think.
