I understand that the headers will tarnish and turn brownish but that is not the problem. http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/motorcy...24570.html I found the Optiglanz here as well for $24 U.S. However, they want $30.25 to ship U.S.P.S. to Canada!!! Amazon is probably cheaper in the long run at $28 (not including shipping). They are usually more reasonable for shipping and handling to Canada. Edit: I just did some research into the "biodegradable active ingredient" in Optiglanz. It is apparently simple phosphoric acid. Therefore, you might get the same cleaning reaction dowsing your headers with Coca-Cola (or any other cola product)! In fact, I have heard of people polishing metal (specifically rusty exhaust pipes) with Coke and aluminum foil. Anyone with more than my grade 13 chemistry, please chime in...

My order on Amazon was $28 including shipping from the UK to Florida, and by shipping they must mean cruise ship - the estimated delivery dates are 7/1 - 7/15. So I will get to enjoy the brown spots for a good while longer.

Anyone with more than my grade 13 chemistry, please chime in... Amazon states a 4-6 week ship time. However, mine arrived in about one week. The cleaner actually comes from customizedchoppers.com in the UK. The stuff appears to be made in Germany or Austria because I can't understand the words on the bottle. Here are the instructions from the customizedchoppers website: "OptiGlanz is an excellent product for cleaning stainless steel rims, exhausts or other items made of stainless steel. Just spray on, wait 1-3 minutes then wash it off with clear water. To add shine you can help with a fine sponge to optimise the result. OptiGlanz cleaner is a high intensity cleaner for all stainless steel surfaces and does not (under normal circumstances) harm paint, chrome, rubber or plastic. However we would recommend covering painted surfaces as a precaution and testing product on a hidden place first. Do not spray on hot surfaces. Biodegradable. OptiGlanz is an irritant - we recommend you wear proper safety gloves, protective goggles and clothing. If contact with eyes or skin use clean water to wash out and contact a doctor. Keep out of reach of children, do not use in closed rooms."

Very often in my online shopping in the US, the cost of shipping and handling is as much as the cost of the product - not counting possible customs charges and fees.
Unless I absolutely cannot do without it, I pass on the product or look elsewhere.

Well, I'm going to try some cola on a hidden bit of the headers first. ![]() If that works, various phosphoric acid cleaners are available at any hardware store for much less than the cost of Optiglanz delivered to Canada. The phosphoric acid is supposed to react with the surface of the metal making it less prone to staining in the future, which seems to be the findings of those who have used Optiglanz.

I've often heard that Coke can be used as a mild cleaner, but never tried it myself. Good luck and let us know how it works.

It's particularly bad when they are hot and they get wet, as in riding in the rain. There's no coating etc. You can buff it off with chrome/metal polish, scrub it off with a ScotchBrite pad, or use a chemical cleaner like the Optiglanz. Or you can spend $6,000 to trade in for 2014 DeLuxe with a double-walled chrome header that will be shiny until the day it rusts through from the inside! A lot of people around here use it to clean out their bank accounts.

I've been hearing about cleaning battery terminals with Coke since before I could drive. I even used it for that purpose once. Did a great job on my terminals, but that wasn't the problem. Jeep had a goofy system back in the early 90's where the ECU could tell the alternator not to charge the battery. To most it just looks like you got a bad alternator, until after you replace it, and it still won't charge. Sold it before I found out about what the real problem was.

The problem is bad genetics, a marriage of AMC with Chrysler and then Fiat. That is some bad juju and cross breeding.
