a proflo filter: https://www.sportbiketrackgear.com/pc-ra...il-filter/

That's on sale at $116. now, i'm getting my oem honda oil filters for about 12 bucks apiece. I change said filters every two oil changes. by the book, that would be 16000 miles on a filter! but i don't go by the book. I change my oil every 4k miles just for the sake of overkill (we have something in common). I've been debating pulling back to 6k though, because i'm starting to think it's just silly paranoia.

anywho, 12 bucks per filter every 8k miles means that i will have to ride a WHOPPING 80k miles before the proflo breaks even with the oem filters in terms of cost. you'd have to be into 6 digit mileage before the proflo even really starts to show its true colors as a cost benefit that matters. you touched on this in your post, coming close to a similar conclusion when you mentioned the 10 oil changes.

alongside that, i have to question the long term durability of the filter. for Jambo: have you run any of those reusable filters for 80k miles without replacing it or replacing the mesh? what's the wear and tear like? It's only prudent to question whether the device can even stand up to enough abuse to justify its cost.

TLDR: is the proflo actually going to amount to any practical savings? or is it just convenient?

I genuinely have never heard of this concept and like MP I'm curious. My question is how do you clean it? I hate emptying and occasionally having to clean my bagless vacuum cleaner. This seems like much dirtier work than that. What's the procedure?

I you look at the picture posted to the link, you just push down and rotate as the unit is keyed and it pops out from the spring mechanism that pushes up on the filter cartridge. I usually am wearing gloves when changing the oil (Harbor Freight sells some inexpensive 7 or 8 mil thick blue latex gloves), because I will get oil on my hands otherwise in removing the filter plug. Have paper towels and plastic baggy on hand to wipe off the plug and motor at the plug and filter. Take the cartridge, spray it with some carb cleaner from the inside, blow it out with compressed air and let it dry. Can be done while the oil drips, so no extra time involved. I have a bus pan from Costco I use for this, but any oil change pan is good, to catch the carb spray and any gook. After all said change is done, I towel off everything and wipe pans out and the funnel used for recycle, and put away. Takes 30-60 minutes total. Less than the time required to take it somewhere. And I know it is done correctly.
One other note. The filter comes with a rubber gasket and spare. Theoretically, if those don't last 10 oil changes, there might be some more expense to get gaskets.

I see a seller on Amazon selling one for $110.18 shipped. There is another for $75, but it is made by DLP, so thinking that is a Chinese knockoff. Would have to do some research there. The one I used is a PCS1 model, and it is the same one put on my 2014 Valkyrie. The OEM is Honda Oil Filter 15410-MFJ-D01 for CB1100 and Revzilla has those for $10.69.
I actually called this the wrong name. It is called a FLO reusable filter by PC Racing. From their website:
https://pcracingusa.com/shop/flo-oil/spi...reet-pcs1/
It fits the CB1100 '13-'15.
Maybe a hard to prove argument is that with it being billet and having cooling fins and being in the wind on the leading edge of the motor, maybe it offers additional cooling properties than an OEM, but I am not really going to make that claim.
I think it does LOOK cool! Lol.
