The past few model years of the Honda Africa Twin uses a lithium-based battery. Owner feedback has mostly been good. Yes, there is a shutdown voltage level to protect the cells from severe discharge (which could otherwise result in fire - this is a standard safety feature). Most of the severe experiences has been user error. Example: Charging a lith-batt with a lead-acid charger. Simply a no-no.
Another appears to sometimes be leaving the battery on a trickle charger. That is not required when in seasonal storage with no-load (e.g. no theft alarms on the bike, etc.).
