I weigh about 195 geared up, but I think my latest jump in gas mileage comes from a couple of things. (1) I ride fairly smoothly and not aggressively. (2) 7/10 mile after leaving my driveway I am on curvy country roads with no stop lights, few stop signs and very little traffic. It is not unusual for me to ride 75 miles with no one in front or behind me. (3) the speed zones I am in are in the 45-55 mph range. (4) I believe it takes less gas to maintain a speed ( steady throttle) than to accelerate and decelerate and (5) the increased use of 6 th gear... whereas I was using 6 th gear only for freeway work, at speeds above 60, I now find myself using 6 th down to 50 mph.
Take a look at the picture below. Typical ride for me (this one was last Sunday morning I believe). Look at the speedo and tach. 50 mph, 2500 rpms. That's how I ride. Neither of my CB's have been over 5000 rpms, it would be really rare for them to see 4000 rpms, mostly I am below 3500 rpms. My normal shift point is about 3200 rpms. Now, it might bore some people to ride like that (and I understand that..ride yours however you like) but that is how I PREFER to ride. This is perfect to me. I love cruising like this. I can, and do, do it for hours on end, day after day. Did it yesterday, did it today, will do it again tomorrow. It's how I roll...pun intended.
