I rarely equate the best deal with the lowest price when it comes to a purchase such as this. The local Honda dealer that I made most of my parts purchases from since 2007 and who were located fairly close by went out of business two years ago (and the next closest Honda dealer also recently shut down), and I really miss having them around. They had some really good folks working in their parts department. No doubt I would have talked to them first if they were still around.
Not having ever purchased a new motorcycle before, I was really trying to figure out which dealer I might want to do business with down the road (and who would hopefully manage to stick around to do business with) rather than find out who would simply offer me the bike for the lowest price. I ended up finding a sales guy that I got along with at a dealership that goes about things the right way. When I bought my CB, I ended up paying $9999 for my CB with no additional fees and I was happy with that. I didn't ask for a test ride, I already knew that I wanted the bike. All it took was for me to sit on the bike and I was ready to wrap things up — there was no way that I wasn't going to buy the bike after that.
I've purchased other items and accessories at the same dealer since I bought the bike and I've received a pretty good discount on those items. Everyone there seems to be both knowledgeable and helpful. Not only do I like doing business at this place, but it feels good to supporti a local business that takes care of me.
The bottom line: I'm happy. Happy with the bike, happy with the dealer, and yes, even happy with the deal. I realize that we're not all looking for the same buying experience. For some, there are no local dealers. For others, only the best price wil do. When all is said and done, we're all spending time on this forum because of the bike, not the bike buying experience.
I hope anyone out there still seeking out a CB1100 is able to find one for themselves and that they are able to find a deal that they're happy with.
