The budget was absurdly small, but it was a huge hit and made millions at the boxoffice. Hollywood, of course, took notice and proceeded to produce an endless string of truly awful knockoffs.

I've seen both bikes, although the "Billy Bike" was probably a replica. They've aged about as well as the movie...silly looking POSes that couldnt ride their way across town, let alone cross- country, without a support truck and chiropractic following behind.

The original Capt. America bikes were either wrecked R stolen so no U did not see the original.
Could not agree with you more. Also the riding shots were done at about 30 miles an hour from angles that made them look like they were going much faster. I think I learned about that from the special features on the DVD.
The locals said it was a local who died recently who pulled the trigger! Dont think I believe that!

Two of each bike were built. Over the years, only one original bike has been identified as genuine, and it was one of the Capt. America bikes. The other three were stolen, but the C.A. bike that was destroyed in the movie was restored and displayed.

Of course there's no way I could confirm or deny if the bikes I saw were real or not, but the claim was (at a show in Daytona in the late 90's or early 2000's) that the C.A. bike was real.
