2014 vs. 2013 Gear Ratios (Especially 6th)
I've been paying closer attention to speed and rpm the last few days, and have drawn some conclusions.

The '13 turns the following rpm in 5th gear:

3400 rpm at 60 mph
3700 rpm at 65 mph
4000 rpm at 70 mph
4300 rpm at 75 mph
4600 rpm at 80 mph

These are approximated since the tachometer shows increments of 2500 rpm. 70 mph is straight up 4000 rpm, this is known. All one needs to do is calculate the speed per 1000 rpm using 70 mph at 4000 rpm. 70 divided by 4 is 17.5. The bike does 17.5 mph per 1000 rpm. With this information, I watched the instruments closer to see if it all matches up, it does.

The bike is geared a little low for some tastes, however, it is less than halfway to the redline at 70 mph. My usual cruising speed on the freeway is 70-75 mph. At those speeds the bike is quite smooth, very torquey, and has a strong top gear roll-on. Those are very good qualities to have on the freeways around here.

I would love to have the overdrive for long road trips, for sure. One option for those that want higher gearing is to replace the front or rear sprocket with a 19 tooth front or a 37 tooth rear. Either one or the other would result in 400 less rpm at any given speed, in each gear. 70 mph in 5th gear would be 3600 rpm, 75 mph would be 3900 rpm, this would be a nice ratio for highway speeds.

Trouble is, I don't think anyone offers these sprocket sizes, I haven't found them anywhere. If/when they become available, I may do this. If not, I'm good with the way it is.

Cheers

Assuming all pre 14th models are the same and the speed is picked up at the back hub.
Is the computer calculating the miles into kilometres or the kilometres into miles......
or is all nuts getting calculated into Miles and Kilometres.
and if I'm correct UK miles are different again.

I would assume that the calculations are set according to the Country that the bike is intended for. Probably can be set, or changed rather simply. Maybe a function of the ECU, can be switched with a laptop and a USB cable, if one has the necessary software.

I don't know this, but that would be my guess.
