Cool! I spend a weekend outside away from a computer and a Friday night feeding frenzy ensues. < /sarcasm>
To Dave: Sorry for getting the quotes within quotes mixed up and ascribing Tortuga's inane bullplop to you. If we ever meet IRL, I owe you a pitcher of beer.
To Tortuga: You can go curl up in the fecal position on someone else's lawn for all I care.
Me too.
Wasn't attempting to tweak anyone at all, but I guess my comment about the 5 speeds vs. 6 speeds and my apparently worshipping of inferior bikes was like a drop of blood in the guppy tank. I wasn't attempting to tweak anyone, but if it helps sooth any of the Faithful to imagine me thus, well, that's decidedly not the only illusion they cling to.
Congrats JetA,
After 200 miles, some on interstate, i confirm the 400 rpm difference between 5th and 6th.
I was turning about 3300 at 70 mph.
I find the gearbox very well suited for city use.
Enjoy your bike!
Gratulations to both of you and thanks very much for the data! That is a pretty nice overdrive. Maybe lose an additional 200rpm with a 38-tooth on the back? I'm sure the engine could handle it easily down in the lower gears and still have plenty of squirt.
Thanks for the explanation. I understood, was just mentioning that 200 rpm does make a difference over time. Every additional stroke of the piston results in wear. It's one reason I gear all of my bikes a little higher.
Another advantage is it almost always results in a more accurate speedometer.

Deep breath everyone!
Lets remember, that if someone like to tweak, and we have several that like to tweak us once in awhile, that if you respond negatively, the tweaker wins in their mind. They thrive on the confrontation. They enjoy stirring the pot and see what bubbles up to the surface. Lets not play the game.
With regards to the 200 rpms difference between say 60 mph in 5 th on the 13 and 60 mph in 6 th on the 14 ....... with the tweaking Honda has done with the 2014 transmission ratios there should be a 400 rpm swing from a given speed in 5 th and the same speed in 6 th on the 14s so the overdrive will be more apparent.
To put it another way, the 14s should be running 200 rpms HIGHER at any given speed in the first 5 gears than the 13's, so the 14s might feel a bit peppier thru the first 5 gears than the 13s.
Im not saying the 6 th gear on the 14s is going to be an omg overdrive like maybe some were expecting, but it will be noticeable if you are riding a 14 down the road at 60 or 70 mph in 5 th and snick it into 6 th.
Either way, not enough difference to fight over.
Me too.
