If I wanted to share personal information I'd do it via Facebook, Twitter, a personal website, or some other such method. As I don't have any social networking accounts, none, zero, zip, nada, clearly I have no interest in sharing other than what I choose to post anonymously in a forum.
This is a perfectly reasonable proposition. Disclosure of personal information ought to be a matter of choice for forum members. For example, a number of the people who have provided their VIN for the registry have also disclosed their names. They are not included in the published registry, although anyone curious enough could track back through the posts and find them.
The UK CB1100 forum has a members map, but displaying your location on it is entirely optional. Were such a feature to be offered here, it should be on the same terms so that people like Red Mist can elect not to participate. Nor should people be able to figure it from his user information so he can continue to enjoy the tranquility of Bear Creek.
