It is probably for the best that you decided not to remove and paint your springs. Unless you are going to use spray-on air dry paint (not very durable) or a Plasti-Dip air-cure type product, I would not recommend it.
Powder coating is the most durable coating, but bad for springs. I had some springs powder coated and the heat of curing (approx. 450 F) totally ruined the temper of the springs. They became limp as a wet noodle...
