I don't know about yours, but with mine I kinda have to "get on" the rear brake for the light to come on. You might want to check that out.

I check it in the garage once in a while to get a feel for the pedal travel before I ride (while not moving, of course ) to see when it comes on, and anyway when there is anyone near enough behind me when I slow down, I hit it harder. I just use it every time out of habit now...
