Has anyone installed one of these on their bike yet? Looks pretty cool it puts on flashers when you decel or downshift.

I got in during the Kickstarter stage and received my license plate mount version but it's kind of too big for the CB1100 so it sits on the shelf for now.

Jesse from Vectolabs, makers of Vololights here. You bring up a great point on the legality of flashing brake lights. We incorporated this issue into the product with the ability to switch Vololights into a Stealth Mode. This does away with flashing but still gives an early indication solid light once our first deceleration threshold is reached.
In this way, riders can still get the benefits of indicating a downshift or engine brake, while abiding by a flashing law. What's interesting is many state motorcycle handbooks recommend flashing brake lights for certain riding maneuvers (including downshifts), while having automatic flashing barred in the same jurisdictions. Still scratching our heads there.

Definitely interested in this because a growing number of people are always in a hurry and love to tailgate. I had been rear ended once years ago on my motorcycle (not my fault), and after spending a month in the hospital with a broken back, I'm a little paranoid of a repeat. So I use the rear brake a little as I downshift or as I let off the throttle to slow for a corner so the brake light will come on, not because I need the brakes.
This would maybe save me from changing the rear pads as often, as well as provide more visibility when I do brake. The price doesn't seem bad, and it looks pretty good. I think I will do some thinking and measuring...

I don't know about yours, but with mine I kinda have to "get on" the rear brake for the light to come on. You might want to check that out.

I wasn't questioning the legality of the flashing, but of the concept of activating without hitting the brake. I'm sure the law says the flashing brake light is allowed but that's connected to the brake switch. Is it technically a brake light if you're not using the brake, if it activates with just deceleration?

I check it in the garage once in a while to get a feel for the pedal travel before I ride (while not moving, of course ) to see when it comes on, and anyway when there is anyone near enough behind me when I slow down, I hit it harder. I just use it every time out of habit now...
