I don't want to belabor the point, but the damage to my bike did include damage to the engine covers, but it also included damage to the headlight cover, the handlebars, the gauge case, the muffler, the footpeg, and and both brake levers among other, smaller items. Some of those may or may not have been damaged if I had engine guards, but there was $2400 damage and about $300 of it was damage to the engine covers. I was putting in an insurance claim regardless. In my particular case, I don't think that the guards saved me anything substantial, but that's just me. engine guards are just not high on my list of priorities when it comes to safety equipment. The fact is that I shouldn't have bought engine guards...I should have spent that $200 on a second pair of boots for my son so he'd have a pair here and at school. THAT is a mistake that I shall not make again.
