Is this normal?

I was not as clear as I could have been...

My question is really if the pipes indicate the bike as being abused. I've seen pics of the bronzing as being more uniform, but this one seems to look blotchy and speckled/pitted.

Do the bronzed headers on this 2013 CB1100 look normal for approx 4000 miles?

Don't worry about the spots and the darkening of the headers. It is normal for this machine. The spots happen from riding in rain and not washing them when you get home. I ride my CB normal, no abuse at all and my headers look the same way. It definitely isn't a sign of abuse. It's tough to keep a bike clean in the winter. 5,500 sounds like a fair deal and 4,000 miles isn't much at all for a three year old bike. I'd buy it if you're looking for a CB 1100.

One of the things that separated the Japanese bikes in the 60's from the brit bikes and Harleys was the pipes remaining bright shiny chrome that always looked good and new. Those of us that grew up with Japanese bikes were proud of that distinction. There is nothing retro (historically) about a Honda with tinted pipes.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. As I recall, back in the day, the first thing that 9 out of 10 UJM owners did was ditch the beautiful chrome pipes and fit a MAC/Kerker/Yosh 4 into 1 SS pipe.
