List was $5199. I bought my '98 Valkyrie new from the same dealer I bought my CB from and it listed at $12,799 but I got it for $12,399 plus a $75 doc fee. Did I get screwed or are freight and prep separate fees these days?

I complained about dealer prep and freight even before the
dealer brought it up.The dealer said just tax and title/registration
fees added.Nothing else,I liked that.I did ask when first looking
the bike over at the sales price.because it had a big price sticker
that read ... sales Price.As if maybe it was on sale.
Every bike I've bought the last 15 years { 7 to be exact }
had some little added cost.Not the CB.
I kinda felt,that maybe the bike wasn't selling well enough.
The dealer did say when asked that he's sold 3 CB's so far.
And that they had one unassembled in the crate in the back.
When I bought the bike a week later,that new in the crate CB
was gone.My dealer said it went to a car dealership.
That they had some working arrangement to do that.
hand a new motorcycle model over to a car dealership.

In Arizona, there is a Vehicle License Tax similar to Personal Property Tax in other states. You can look it up on AZMVD if you're curious. Basically, the Dealer listed their price of $9,779.11, then added Doc Fee and some extra in the Registration. So total to Dealer was $10,044.27. The rest of the $11K went to the State for Tax, Registration, and Vehicle Property Tax, Reg, Title etc....
Hope this helps others with their purchase. This was the last ABS and they werent' getting another until Jan. He also mentioned they had 4 Non-ABS modes in crates.
You can definitely get a better deal after the initial buying frenzy, but overall, I'm out the Door for MSRP so I'm happy and love the bike!
I will have to pay the vehicle property tax come my birth month.
There is no way in Kentucky to get around that.Do not pay
the vehicle property tax when it comes due and get no license plate
sticker,which is yearly.And the penalty for paying late runs 10%
a month and graduates.It applies on all vehicle in one's possession.
meaning even some jalopy you bought to fix up.that doesn't
even run.

This is unlike the car industry as the shipping is a normalized cost nation wide that is included on the window sticker. It sounds like people got some really good deals on the bike. I know what the dealer cost is (at least for us being a small dealer and not a Honda superstore or whatever the big Honda exclusive stores are called) and many of you paid less than I did for store cost plus $100 and shipping and set up.
Having said all of that, I would have paid full price for my bike, I absolutely love it and don't regret getting it for a minute.
Honda may indeed charge over $300 to ship the bike.But that
isn't what Honda asks the dealer for on a new bike.You'll never
truly know.it could be 20% less than the advertised price { $9,999}
It could be 25% less or maybe 17% less.Which would be
$2500 dollars off the $9,999 or $1700 dollars off.
So the dealer can still manage to alot a 10% profit margin,
given other costs like assembly and fluids and paper work.
Insurance and overhead to have a place to store the bike.
Japan isn't in the business to NOT post a profit.
Either is a dealer.Any dealer.
