Here is a pic I posted on the forum in June. Stromer is a Swiss company recently bought out by BMG. This bike is a rear hub 500 watt Pedelec ( 500 watts= app. 3/4 HP) which can reach 28mph on the flats, however its sweet spot is 25mph with a cadence (pedal rpm's) of about 70rpm's. Pedelec is a bike which requires pedaling without a throttle.
There are four modes of power, ECO, CITY, TOUR & POWER. ECO will net you the most distance out of its 522Wh battery. This mode will power the 62lb bike similar to a conventional bike only leveling out the climbs a bit more. Average distance is about 50-60 miles. Power mode will give you the ability to climb like a professional.
In Europe all e-bikes are restricted to 15mph, law in Europe requires ins. reg. and motor vehicle license above that speed.
E-bikes have been in Europe for years and just breaking into the US market. California recently passed laws which classify these as bikes under the speed of 28mph which was adopted by other states.
