Well, this didn't seem to be a popular or common question, so I took the situation into my own hands and modified the stock lever to come closer to the handlebars in the #5 position.
Basically, I drove the center bushing out of the lever using the pivot screw/bolt, then disassembled the whole assembly. The main mod was to file down the lever boss that holds the little contact pad which meets the adjustment knob. I ground it down about 1/8" or so, deepened the counterbored hole with a 4mm drill bit, took a little bit off the face of the knob flats and reassembled. Fits me just fine now....
