Some, like me, plan to never sell their bike. I am concerned about future parts availability. Is there any requirement that manufacturers make new parts available for a certain length of time? I understand that aftermarket manufacturers tend to have new parts available for many years after a model is discontinued, but these are usually only for common replacement parts like air filters, and brake pads. There are many parts on our bikes than can only be purchased through an authorized Honda dealer, and I don't know what I will do in five, or 10 years from now, when I need a part for my bike that cannot be purchased through Honda. Should I be concerned? Should I stockpile a supply of parts (gaskets, seals, O-rings, brake pads, air filter, brake and clutch master cylinder rebuild kit, brake caliper rebuild kit) now just in case they are needed in the future, and are not available for purchase? Has anyone on this forum experienced any difficulties purchasing any OEM parts for their bike yet? Our bikes are fairly limited production, and I don't see Honda stockpiling a lot of parts to support us in the future. Your thoughts?
Hi, I have bought tons of pasts for my DLX from Part Fish (2-3 years ago), but the guy I work with there told me Honda normally only carries OEM stock parts for 10 years. I would imagine the more common parts used between models would still be available, but parts like headers or gas tanks, probably not.
