New OEM Parts Availability - dave - 08-20-2025 Hello all ye faithful CB1100 lovers. I believe that many of us plan to keep, and ride, their CB1100 for many years to come. Some, like me, plan to never sell their bike. I am concerned about future parts availability. Is there any requirement that manufacturers make new parts available for a certain length of time? I understand that aftermarket manufacturers tend to have new parts available for many years after a model is discontinued, but these are usually only for common replacement parts like air filters, and brake pads. There are many parts on our bikes than can only be purchased through an authorized Honda dealer, and I don't know what I will do in five, or 10 years from now, when I need a part for my bike that cannot be purchased through Honda. Should I be concerned? Should I stockpile a supply of parts (gaskets, seals, O-rings, brake pads, air filter, brake and clutch master cylinder rebuild kit, brake caliper rebuild kit) now just in case they are needed in the future, and are not available for purchase? Has anyone on this forum experienced any difficulties purchasing any OEM parts for their bike yet? Our bikes are fairly limited production, and I don't see Honda stockpiling a lot of parts to support us in the future. Your thoughts? RE: New OEM Parts Availability - MagnaRider - 08-20-2025 Hey Dave, I too share your concern as I hope my CB1100 lasts with me until its no longer a retro and can be considered a vintage itself. I however have not had an issue yet with part availability, and a saving grace for the CB1100 is that a lot of parts are used on other Honda bikes so there is more sense to keep parts stocked from Honda's viewpoint. Engine parts however I would assume are going to be pretty exclusive to CB1100 for the most part and might be worth stocking. Hi, I have bought tons of pasts for my DLX from Part Fish (2-3 years ago), but the guy I work with there told me Honda normally only carries OEM stock parts for 10 years. I would imagine the more common parts used between models would still be available, but parts like headers or gas tanks, probably not. RE: New OEM Parts Availability - the Ferret - 08-20-2025 shoot I'm at an age where the CB's parts available are going to probably outlast mine. RE: New OEM Parts Availability - Gone in 60 - 08-20-2025 Hey I know at least the turn signals on my ‘13 are shared with most Honda cruisers, so I should be able to find those if I need them. I have several used lens from the DLX and a couple signals housings too. I just replaced them with new ones on my DLX restore task. I tried 'OFF" and it cleared them up some, but the new ones just look way better. RE: New OEM Parts Availability - dave - 08-25-2025 I am going to purchase all the gaskets and O-rings required when performing a valve adjustment, and store them in a drawer. While I'm at it, I'll purchase an air filter, and a complete set of front and rear brake pads, and fork seals. Maybe I'll get a front and rear sprocket too. RE: New OEM Parts Availability - dave - 08-25-2025 I just ordered all of the items I identified in my previous post, and after they are delivered I'll have them sitting in a drawer waiting for when I need them. I did a similar thing about 10 years ago with my 1991 Toyota truck when an on-line OEM distributor gave me a 10% discount, and free shipping. I ordered an alternator, a water pump, and all the radiator hoses. It was really nice last year when my alternator failed (245,000 miles), and I had a brand new, OEM one on hand, ready to install. FYI: I created a file back in 2015 that contained all of parts illustrations, and prices for the CB1100. Comparing to the same distributor, the sprocket prices have increased 79%. RE: New OEM Parts Availability - LucienLeFranc - 03-29-2026 Hi Dave, thanks for your helpful post. I was wondering if you still might happen to have the maintenance parts list mentioned in your post handy that you could share? I just got my CB last week and would like to follow your example of being prepared before CB-specific parts start being discontinued. Thanks for any further help! (And conversely I completely understand if you aren't able to post it for whatever reason.) I would be happy to send you the CB1100 parts illustrations. Please PM me your email address and I will send them to you. They are all saved in the Microsoft PowerPoint format. It will take several emails to send them all. Best regards. |
