I've always had good luck with the A* WR-3s. They have good thin insulation and a Goretex outer, which makes them completely waterproof. I find the latter particularly important, as I find it's not hard to keep your hands warm on cold days, but as soon as they get wet or damp it's game over. These gloves have been around for so long that it's not hard to find them for under $100 on places like Ebay etc...
