Sounds like the crew was pushing for a low pressure and misjudged running temperature correction. He was off a very small amount.
From my old track day and racing days we ran pressures far below standard recommended, 30 psi or less. Bigger contact patch, better traction and feedback, but wears out faster.
I was thinking greater heat buildup, faster wear.
