Buyer Beware Everywhere!
I recently bought another Mitutoyo Digital Caliper, went to look on eBay and elsewhere, and seeing prices from $40 new to $175. Why the huge price discrepancy? Yup, counterfeit calipers, with fake certification and calibration documents, from China through eBay and other sources.
If you didn't know it, you wouldn't be able to tell. I found several youtube vids showing how to spot the differences. Wonder how many are in the hands of aerospace engineers? What could go wrong?
Anyway, I ponied up and bought an authentic one from Grainger, knowing one day I'd be measuring Honda bolt lengths.
