Wet weather gear
#9
For many reasons, I do not like to ride in the rain, but, sometimes, it happens. The first time I rode in the rain, it was not by choice. I had ridden my '76 KZ750 some 30 miles to work one beautiful Spring day in San Antonio, Texas. I was wearing the summer Air Force uniform with short sleeve shirt and low-quarter shoes. Helmet, but no gloves. About 1530 or so, I noticed the sky in the direction I lived had gone very dark and I closed up shop and got the bike fired up and on the road. It wasn't long before the rain hit and, of course, everyone else had the same idea and I was stuck in stop-and-go "freeway" (using the term loosely here) traffic, and heavy rain, until only a few miles from home. I was not so much worried about getting wet as I was about someone else skidding into me or doing something stupid on the slick roads. I got home safely and poured the water out of my shoes and took off my soaking clothes in the garage.
Sometimes you don't get to chose if you will ride in the rain. On those times that I have worn some kind of protection from the rain, I get as wet from sweat as I would have from the rain, so what's the difference?
Speaking of rain, it is raining here in the Phoenix, Arizona, USA, area for a change. I hadn't planned to go riding today anyway.
Biker
And, speaking of Coober Pedy, I've often wondered why Americans haven't started building more underground houses in the desert Southwest.
