Emgo Exhaust??

mgoodie, what is the inside diameter of your Emgo slip on muffler? Mine is ~1-3/4", on the inside of the collar connecting neck, but my connecting pipe is much larger, so there is no way for the muffler to be slipped on and clamped at that point. Any one (or combination) of the supplied Emgo "reducers" only make it worse.

Basically, this fitment issue with the Emgo's muffler (i.e. a "universal" 17" long short reverse cone so-called "slip on") is the result of it being designed for smaller displacement engines. The intended use is to slip on to an exhaust pipe (before connecting to the stock muffler) that is smaller in diameter. The OD of that opening must be in the range of 1-3/8 to 1-3/4". However, a 4 into 1 exhaust system, like on the 1140cc engine of the CB1100, is designed with a larger diameter. Also, there is the issue of the Emgo (by design) of not providing a landing bracket for a center stand stopper, because it has no link pipe already provisioned for that requirement.

Bottom line, the Emgo is relatively cheap and we got what we paid for, unfortunately a slip on muffler that is basically incompatible with a CB1100. But with some ingenuity and perseverance, it can still be made to work. There are at least three cases of this being true, including yours, as documented on this forum including YouTube. Those seems to have overcome all obstacles (with or without the outside help of a muffler shop or some sort of interconnecting adapter, resulting in satisfactory installations.

Im sorry I cant measure since I sold the bike a few months ago but Im led to believe that Emgo changed the inside diameter sometime between when I bought mine and you bought yours. Cause I know I just slid mine on and tightend it down I may have used one of the reducers but cant remember.

I did find a question I answered on Amazon of the original product I bought that lists sizes of the reducers, I'm not sure if you can compare to the one you bought to see if we got different mufflers. Here's my answer copied for amazon.

It is 12" long and includes reducer set for 1 3/8, 1 1/2, 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 pipes. Does very little muffling so they are loud, build quality if far superior than price says it should be.
