My guess is that your new light pulls its ground from the chassis when you bolt it on. Most stuff on our bike, from the factory gets grounds from ground wires run to them. The other end of the wires ends up at a chassis connection. So, for example, a turn signal has a ground connection and a 'hot' wire.

When you bolt up your new lights and they don't ground, you may have to connect it to the bike ground wire somehow. Since I do not know how much you know about about electricity/electronics don't get offended please, but all circuits need a ground and a source voltage.

The ground wires on the bike are green. You can verify with a DVOM.
