69 was one of the better years for the Bonnie. My favorite was the 67 in Burgoine and white. Perfect proportions, awesome sound, beautiful motorcycle. One of the top 3 best looking motorcycles of all time imo.
Call it luck or good genes that I'm still healthy enough! I still ride bicycles too. About 20 years ago my knees began to hurt after a long run. Started cycling, and all the pain went away.
I only had the bonnie a few years, between my two tours to Viet Nam and Thailand. When I came back, a couple of guys who worked for me had BMW's, and I rode BMW's for for years afterwards. Then it was Ducatis, after I became discouraged about the growing complexity of BMWs. Finally figured out that Ducs weren't that happy on the street, but a blast on the track, so I gave up on having a Duc for a street bike, and never really liked the Multistrada that much. I am very comfortable on my CB, now approaching 400 miles (we have had a cold spring with lots of snow). It's so easy and fun to ride that I tend to leave the Vstrom in the garage. The old Beemer (78) is in "rehab", and will soon be done, with new almost everything. I HOPE I have just ordered the last part I need to complete the job: a new set of Michelin Pilot Activs. I'm anxious to see how those compare to the old Dunlops I'm taking off. (Never put Dunlops on an old airhead!)
