Went for a short ride today with my toy. Not enough time to go on a longer ride but anyway here is what I found.
What I like
- is that there is no way this thang could cause an accident,
- you need to slow down, role the throttle to idle, no extra force needed,
- you can adjust the throttle while it's engaged
- ease of installation, and no permanent changes
What I find "okay"
- if you need to shift gear, you still have to go to idle (of course !), but then it requires additional adjustment which is not instantaneous.
What I don't like as much
- it takes too many twists to really make it engage, not twisted enough and the throttle goes slowly back to idle, and often enough you cannot tell in advance
- I think I will not use it in places where the speed needs to be adjusted frequently, it takes too much attention and distracts me from traffic, but on longer stretches of straight and wide road .... I can see its value.
I'll keep it for the 15 bucks I paid (last in stock, I got lucky), just in case for that long ride on the interstate (which I mostly avoid). But I am still looking for a serious cruise control (which I will probably never find).
Good to know, on previous trips I've gone entire gas tanks on just open highway between destinations so i could see it useful for that. Just set it in 6th gear and give the right hand a break
