I tend to follow automobile prices much more closely than motorcycle prices. However, if used motorcycle sales are anything like used car sales, I would suspect that for truly pristine examples, bringatrailer.com might be the way to go (examples in less-than-minty condition would likley be better off selling elsewhere.) I mention Bring a Trailer (BaT) as it seems to me that he number of motorcycles appearing on their site have been on the increase as of late. BaT buyers and the BaT audience alike can be pretty brutal in their anal evaluation of vehicles, but sellers with examples that pass muster with this crowd are generally well rewarded. While that crowd can be tough, for many this route is preferable to dealing with the trials and tribulations of craigslist and the like.

That said, I sold my Hawk GT via a forum dedicated to the Hawk GT. While it's likely that I could have gotten more money in return for my Hawk elsewhere (I listed it for a reasonable price and it sold in just a day or so), the fact that my bike went to a fellow Hawk enthusiast actually was of value to me, despite it not being of monetary value. I received a few emails from the buyer subsequent to the purchase — he included photos of my old Hawk taken while out and about (he and his wife now have his 'n hers Hawks!). Despite the fact that these are just "things", knowing that my old Hawk is being well looked after and enjoyed by someone that truly appreciates it and knows how to take care of it really does make me feel good. After all, I spent 11 years taking good care of that machine. It's nice to know all that time and effort didn't just go to waste at the hands of someone wanting to molest it (the buyer was looking specifically for a primarily stock example like the one I was selling).

It seems like used prices bottomed out in 2016, when Honda decided to clear the warehouses of '14 STD models. There were several local dealers selling them for $6K brand new, which sunk used prices into the mid $4K range. Lately, with a few exceptions, most prices are trending into the high $6K to low $7K range for standard '13 and '14 models.

When it comes to specialty insurance, I'm in the same boat (so to speak) with my plane. I also have to declare a hull value every year. I've been helping a friend search for the same model and found out that my hull coverage was about $8K below current market. The higher value doesn't benefit me because I'm not selling. Just adds more to this year's premium.

Interesting observations with regards to CB1100 prices, I'll be honest that I haven't been following the market closely at all as far as our bikes go. Current market values aside, I look back at the $9,999 that I paid to ride my brand new CB1100 out of the showroom back in 2013 and I have zero regrets. It was worth that to me then and I've never once regretted this purchase. I'd agree that we're in very similar boats when it comes to the insurance situation as I don't have any interest in selling either the S2000 or the CB1100. The price that I'll have to pay to insure these two is what it is. Still, the personal experience-based value that I get from both of these Honda's far exceeds their monetary value out on the market.
