This can be a problem for a lot of people, and there are/would certainly be bikes that I truly love and can't let others ride, but the second bike slot in my garage has a purpose. it's a workhorse. it's intended to be flogged down highways and have its tires squared off from commuter miles and ride in the rain and ride in the bitter cold and get sand and crap all over it. It's supposed to be the bike that takes the hit when the inevitable unlucky day comes and somebody takes me out and wrecks me. I can't let that happen to my CB, so i reserve the CB for fun miles only. It's purchased with those kinds of conditions in mind. I bought it precisely because i don't want all those things to keep happening to my CB.
For those reasons, i specifically set out to purchase something that i **dont** love. I don't love a Vstrom. it's a great bike but....let's face it. it aint a stallion. it's just remarkably practical. I didn't love my concours. it was awesome and comfortable and spaceship-like and mega powerful for overtaking crappy drivers, but it was also too heavy and required too much maintenance. It was also not nearly as fun in twisties as my CB. In the same vein, i don't **love** my Versys. It's also a great bike, with loads of advantages. TBH, i have to admit, i've already had more "fun" on it than on my Vstrom or my Concours. However, "love" is a really strong word. I would probably "love" an MT07 or a Trident (god would I love a trident), but that would just defeat the purpose of having a second bike. I would no longer be able to use it as a workhorse.
TLDR; when you live on a bike sometimes you have to buy with your brain and not your heart.
