If you read about the engine, they did design some harmonics into it by slightly having the valve timing out of phase, so this will likely be part of the vibration you feel.
I had noticed the recommended shift points on page 29 of the 2013 manual and the bike is around 2k to 2.5k with their recommendations.
I guess that's what got me to thinking I should be "lugging" it.
