My Canadian 2017 CB1100CAH (EX model in U.S.) has pretty amazing brakes for stopping capability but the fronts begin to squeal/howl just before coming to a complete stop. There is no noise at speeds above 10 mph. Also happens when reversing out of my driveway at low speeds.
The noise is somewhat akin to a Wet Finger rubbing on a Crystal Glass with an almost Bell Like character. It's annoying and embarrassing! Interestingly, if I tap either front rotor when off the bike, it's pretty much just a dull thud with no ringing quality.
Was wondering if this is a common issue and if anyone has found a fix for the problem?

My 2017 EX does exactly the same thing. I can't help but think that in the 50 years since the CB750 in 1969, Honda would have learned to engineer brakes that don't do this. I keep trying to convince myself just to live with it, since the braking performance is really good. My rear brake is functioning normally, except that I have noticed that it takes a very long time to return to normal after I wash the bike. It surely is taking longer than it would take just to clear any water off the rear brake disc. Perhaps the OEM rear pad material actually soaks up moisture and needs to build real heat to dry out? I don't know, but after 50 years of riding and literally dozens of bikes, this is something I have not seen before. At least the noisy front brakes work fine, even when wet.
I similarly wondered regarding Honda engineering. I convinced myself that it could be an issue of materials cost savings. I do not recall, but maybe a Forum member who exchanged the discs and pads out for aftermarket do not experience this braking behaviour.
