hmmm...I would still prefer a separate lever to operate instead of a link system. Maybe a left lever for rear like those scooter. Too much variable to consider if all operate from a single lever...

Interesting find ... have to think about this more. The immediate thought is this a solution looking for a problem-sort-of-thing? But similarly, in cages back-up cameras and self-parallel parking are essentially the norm now. Safety is the forefront in many minds.

Yesterday, the ramp down to my garage was covered on wet dead leaves. I got down by just using the rear brake (some locking, ABS kicking in...). As I knew the front was going to be on the very limit of traction I didn't want any brake pressure on that end.

Sometimes, you just need to decouple braking systems to get control.

On another note: you wouldn't pass through inspection here if you tinker with the braking system like that.

And even on another note: I'd like to try a VFR800 with its linked brakes system.

My last BMw had linked brakes. I never touched the rear brakes on that bike, unless I just wanted rear brakes only if a traction situation warranted or while making tight u-turns. It didn’t feel any different from any other bike.

Between the two I have a better understanding of its convenience. I suppose like the DCT for racing, you learn to feel the benefits, but arguably give-up some feel for the total machine. In the case of the linked brakes in a single hand grip, that would be a sort of re-learning for me. However, some could immediately benefit, say for example one is unable to effectively use the foot brake for some reason. I reckon one can modulate the rear brake to a certain extent, but again, it would take some getting use to with the new control and as the rear brake fades.

My ST 1300 and my FJR both have linked brakes. Its no big deal really. In actual use you have no idea they are linked.

I'll pile on too. My RT has linked brakes using the front brake lever, but allows rear brake activation by using only the brake pedal. Like Gone in 60 and the ferret, I don't even notice.

Well, LR and Ferret can tell you my 2014 non-ABS rear will let you slide right through an intersection LOL.

My son learned the hard way too the first time on it in Chicago...almost slid through a light as I was following eck! Not a good time to be watching.

On my K1600 I was trying to still use the rear...like 80% front and 20% rear but found my rear sliding going into some of those wonderful NC curves!

After talking to the group, no one ever touches the rear so I now do the same EXCEPT like Gone in 60 said, becomes necessary for tight U-Turns.

I will say I think a lot about Ferret's rear master cylinder locking up his rear wheel...I think too much ;-)
