Potholes are a fact of life here too, and I've hit a few, but so far have avoided any wheel damage.
Every spring it becomes an exercise trying to remember where the worst ones are on the roads I frequent mostly.
And you're right, it takes all summer to do the repairs.
It's unfortunate that you sustained a bent rim, but you seem to have a good place for repairs.
