Yesterday I was having my clutch and brake fluid changed at my local shop. I was in the show room talking to the sales guys when I got a page over the PA.."MICKEY, PLEASE COME TO YOUR MOTORCYCLE". So I walk back thru the shop doors and the head mechanic who is working on my my bike says "stand right here and look at your back wheel" as he spins it. Son up a gun, there is a wobble. We stop the wheel and look real close and sure enough there is a scrape of the rim, right where the wobble is. Dang pot holes.

It's holding air, and who knows how long it's been there, so I'm not going to worry about it until winter. He said the front was alright and wondered how I bent the rear but not the front? They don't call me the wheelie king for nothing, I told him. (actually they don't call me that. I haven't done a wheelie in 30 years lol)

They gave me the name of a place they use here in town that does great work straightening rims called Wheel Doctor. I looked at their website last night and they do amazing work. Mine would be like treating a bruise compared to some of the rims they showed and fixed.

Anyhow got new clutch and brake fluid, he checked chain tension and lubed the chain, and lubricated all the pivot points like sidestand, centerstand etc and now it's ready for the rally.
Bad luck ferret but good luck you have a shop that handles such things.

Must have been quite a pothole to bend a rim. Do you remember hitting one that may have caused the damage?
That stinks. I've bent several BMW rims, which are quite soft and quite expensive to replace. There's a shop here called Woody's Wheel Works and they perform magic.

LOl there are a billion potholes around here in the spring and the road crews spend all summer patching them. No one particular jar comes to mind, there are many jars lol.

Holy smokes LR, yea mine is not near that bad. You have to really look to see it, but when the wheel is spinning it's plainly visible.
That’s the pits Ferret! Luckily that hit didn’t cause an accident!
There is a plus side to this misfortune:
As a rally ride leader, you can tell everyone to “Just follow the wobbling wheel”.
Have never bent a bike rim, but I have bent three aftermarket wheels on my car in potholes on the drive to work.
Potholes are a fact of life here too, and I've hit a few, but so far have avoided any wheel damage.
Every spring it becomes an exercise trying to remember where the worst ones are on the roads I frequent mostly.
And you're right, it takes all summer to do the repairs.
It's unfortunate that you sustained a bent rim, but you seem to have a good place for repairs.
I just read theirs "What We Can Do", very clear and professional statement
Hi Mickey. I bent the rear wheel on my VFR 800 in two places when I was traveling on the freeway at about 75 mph, with an unknown flat tire, and I rode over two lane markers they use here in Ca. (At 75 mph the centrifugal force acting on the tire was hiding the fact that it was flat). I bent the rim slightly in two locations. I had it repaired, and the rime runs as true as if it had never been bent. I highly recommend you have yours repaired.
I damaged two rims on a car when I hit a pot hole one night. The front one was terminal and was expensive to replace; the rear was able to be repaired and was as good as new.
