Triumph T120 v CB1100a
#11
Shrug.. It depends upon what you want..

both are good... Tho, and admittedly I'm biased.. Is that if either of the two is going to be kept for a long time, the Honda will more likely fair better.. If youkeep bikes a few years, neither will let you down..

I will say that it is nice to have choices. Obviously those who are drawn to the Triumph have their pick of new bikes while someone looking for a CB1100 is limited to a few remaining unsold examples or more likely a used bike with low miles.

Or high miles. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Right, but to get back on topic, the Triumph is going to sell much better than the CB1100 because it looks "modded" right out of the crate, has quite a bit more power, and as Guth pointed out has the British cache and style.

The CB1100 is indeed a jewel; I've owned mine for just about exactly three years and have never had a bike wear as well over time, or be so adaptable and reliable.

The Thruxton 1200 is a new bike and we will see how many owners feel about them in due course of time.

Actually, the original topic was comparing Honda's CB1100 with the Triumph T120 (not the Thruxton R).

Fortunate to own both (plus a Bonnie) and they all have their charms. But the CB has been collecting dust for a few months now. The ThruxR is, by a good stretch, on every level, far more involving to ride. And since its new, I'm defaulting to it. I'm sure the CB will get some love soon, it still looks so beautiful sitting there, and hope it doesn't get a complex!

Since my brother bought a new T120 and I have a CB1100 I can tell you a few things aout them. In use they are identical.. We turn the same rpm in the same gears 1-6 exactly. If I am 5 th turning 2800 rpms I can ask him what gear and what rpms he is running thru our intercoms and it is always the same. The CB is a little smoother than the 270 degree twin, but you have to be picky to notice it. His bike came with features ours didn't...mainly the heated grips and ride modes, although I think once you find one of the two modes that suits you, you just leave it in that mode. His bike sounds a little throatier than a CB but is not near as throaty as the Street Twin for some reason. We haven't busted one off, because we no longer ride like that, but I suspect the CB would be fractionally faster. These two bikes are very closely matched, much more so than the CB and the T100 which came before the T120. Imo the T120 is better than the T100 in every way, looks performance, braking ability, silkiness of transmission. I do think the T100 with the 360 motor was a tiny bit smoother, but again, not by much. Triumpg really did a superb job with the T120. THey will sell a bunch of them.

SUPERCRUZ linked to a thread on the Triumph forum, which started out as a T120 vs. CB1100, and then moved into a discussion of the merits of his new Thruxton R as compared to the CB1100.
