I used the strap that came with the Luimoto cover and put the old strap in a box on the shelf.

The side panel of my bike is black like the tank, so no complaints there. It is the plastic fuel injector cover that I find near-unacceptable, especially compared to the high-quality rest of the bike. Still not sure what to do about it - I might give it a try and cover it with shiny black vinyl and see how it turns out.

It would be very easy to paint that black, I would try water based silk black (not gloss) which would be a good match for the headers ect.
Just looked again and being black would then highlight the exhaust header collar being silver.

My guess is that they wanted to make it as invisible as possible and this was the best option. Making it gloss or even carbon fiber, will bring it out and take the eye to it, rather than the other, more desirable points, like the tank.

I think you have a point there. That is an argument for trying to make it 'silky' or 'glossy' black with a piece of vinyl and then see if that makes the bike look better, or (as you suggest) would make it even worse. If the latter, I can just take the vinyl off again.

Will keep you guys (& gals?) updated (although all this will have to wait for much warmer days - the bike is parked in my subzero storage).

Bioman, you could have a vinyl checkered strip made up like the one on the side panel just behind that panel, so it continues that line right up to the engine.
That is the great thing about vinyl wrap - it is easy to remove.

I bought the 2014 red side covers. Not an exact match but so close that 99.9% of the time you can't tell. Problem fixed.
