There's no good reason to need to be going over 100 though, and that can get you in some trouble pretty easily.

"Good reason"? Maybe not....but it's fun in small doses. For me, a quick blast up to speed is a once-in-a-while "treat," but I pretty much limit it to full daylight on roads I know well, with clear lines of sight, no traffic, no intersections, no driveways, no surface contamination, etc.

Is there some additional risk from animals, or a mechanical failure of some kind, in those circumstances? Yes...but on a modern, well-maintained bike the risk is low enough that I'm willing to accept it. I've never felt that there's crystal clear line between "safe" and "unsafe" when it comes to speed. It's all rider and context.

That said, if it's not your cup of tea, absolutely nothing wrong with that. And different people have different tolerances for risk.

Fair enough Thumbs Up As long as you are not imposing your risk on somebody else, who am I to judge?

For me just being on two wheels makes me happy enough. I suppose I can understand that a lot of people look for the extra rush.
