Rental Low Bars

I'm considering buying the stock bars from a CB1000R... I'm thinking they should be about the same rise as those daytona bars, and the gold might look kind of cool. I also like the idea of them coming pre drilled for Honda, and I'm assuming they should fit the stock bar ends.

Nevermind that... After some research, it looks like the CB1000r bars are fatter at the clamps.

So how did you get the center clamps to hold the bars firm? I bought the same bars from the same place and even after roughing up the bars where the clamps are they are still slightly loose (the bars are not clamped down tight enough to keep them from rotating) and I will break the bolts if I tighten anymore. I will be finding a set of Flanders with the serrated clamp area like the stock bars. What a pain!

I put a set of lower bars on my bike today.
I did drill the holes for the switches and had to use some aftermarket bar ends.

I wanted it to look stock with the chrome bars but be a bit lower, I used BikeMaster Daytona bend. ($25)

They seem like they would be quite a bit lower but after it was all done it wasn't that big of a change.
Feels real nice and still very comfy.

I did have a little trouble snugging everything up, the diameter of the aftermarket bars must be slightly smaller. I'm glad I didn't dremel off the pins.

I think I'll get some heavy stainless bar end weights to make up for the loss of damping provided by the stock bar ends.

BikeMaster also makes a superbike bend that is a bit lower and a Euro bend that's about the same height but drops at the grips.

The Daytona is not a radical change and it clears the tank without any issues.
I'll ride a it a few days and see how it feels.

Beer can to the rescue! Now they fit fine.
Even tho they were a pain to get to grip (Bud) (the bar clamps) to the rescue, I love the slight drop for my hands. I also chose not to put the bar ends on. Seems a little sportier now...

So you used some can aluminium for a shim? I'm thinking I'd file the flat surface of the top clamps some and use a couple drops of red loctite between the bar and clamp.

Here are the pics of the low bars installed on the CB.
They are not too low at all and don't put any weight on your hands /wrists just more comfortable (IMO)
But I ride bikes with lower bars and don't like tall bars at all.

The brake line doesn't flow the right direction and has an added bend but it's not sharp enough to be a problem.

I was looking at a set of Renthal bars at the dealer's last week and was wondering about my bar end mirrors fitting. The Daytona sounds like it may be a better, and definitely cheaper, option.
