Air box mod save $$$

EFI is really pretty simple. It's works on in puts. Air temp, TPS ,Camshaft pos , crank pos amount of air flowing into the intake (map sensor) airflow sensor! When the ECM reads all these inputs it in returns opens the injectors for the amount of what it reads all this is done in milli seconds making it quick response. But the ECM is set up by the factory to only be able to do so much adjusting mainly due to emissions! When you have the ECM flashed it just changes the factory setting to let the timing curve, fuel/ mixture etc to exceed the factory emissions so to speak. Motors now days are built to run with back pressure, so if you had a free flowing exhaust and put on a stack for air filter it's a good chance you could lose performance rather than gain. By flashing your ECM everything can be matched up for the max preformance!

The biggest problem with the "butt dyno" isn't our hind-ends, but the space residing above our shoulders. Like so many other things in life, we often perceive that which we wish to be true. That is not to say that differences might not exist, but to my way of thinking the mental illusions that we are capable of creating have far more impact than any actual differences.

Guth - Well said. Another example might be that strange noise that seems to occur on the first ride after doing major work on a bike. "Oh no! Mr Bill!" Undecided

Lol cb4me. I like my bike with stock pipes. Like them quite. But I do like to hear other bike owners pipes singing.

I did dynometer runs comparing various intake and exhaust configurations.
1) Stock everything
2) Unrestricted exhaust (Yoshimura full) with TSR air intake
3) Unrestricted exhaust with stock air intake (stock air filter)

While the air-fuel ratios changed, the HP curves for each of these configurations was exactly the same.

I am unwilling to compromise intake air filtration, but before you conclude that the stock air filter is holding the performance back, another member ran butt dynos comparing unrestricted air intake (no snorkel or air filter) to stock and could not detect a difference.

Hate to be the guy that necro-bumped an almost 3 year old post- but I was linked here from another thread.

Not to be a nay sayer- but what you state- af change with exact same power is not really possible. Now the power change +/- might be as minuscule as to fall within the normal variance between runs, especially depending on how the graph is scaled- but I would be more interested in seeing the fuel curve. My guess would be it went lean, and if retuned to give it back the fuel it wanted- would make more power.

Just random thoughts from a guy that has heavily modified countless vehicle engines in his life.

Dyno testing uncorking an engine without correcting the fueling is no test at all.

butt dyno aside, when the bike goes from won't power wheelie to does power wheelie, you can bet your butt dyno the performance was improved. argument?

Depends-

What RPM did you wack the throttle?

Did you let off and back on before wacking? Something as simple as throttle induced fork compression/rebound can make a big difference..when combined with the right RPM....

no bouncing. about 4k rpm when I "whacked it" as you say and up it went. took me totally by surprise. I had left the plug thing out of the air intake snorkle. still won't do it with a full tank of gas.

No need for bouncing. Start the bike rolling, pull in the clutch, twist the throttle, release the clutch and hang on. The bike will stand straight up for you.Banana
