Shaved Stock or K+H Low
#1

Hey guys, just brought home a 2014 CB1100... tommorow will be a week with the beast. So i'm five foot six, not sure of my inseam but i'm definitely tip toeing it.

Makes it difficult to turn the bike around 180 degrees in my front yard where space is limited, don't want to jet off into the trees lol!

I like samurider seats but the cost is up there... I have a shop about an hour away that will shave seats, is this the cheapest of options?

Thanks!

Chris

Hello howdy Chris and welcome to the forum. I would think a shaved seat would be magnatudes cheaper.

Welcome GB!!

All motorcycle seats are stupid expensive (IMO) AND, you don’t get to try them out first. Having it shaved is a good idea.

Hi Chris

I have the stock Japanese market seat that came with my 2013. I believe it's lower than the US version. I replaced mine with a higher EX seat and no longer have a use for it. I could send it to you but not sure if the cost would be prohibitive.

Lower your front forks by like 1.5" it cost nothing. I think there is a way to bring the rear down, but not sure how. Samurider is overpriced to hell and back. Take your set to local automotive upholstery shop and they can refoam it with memory gel foam or whatever you wish. You can shave 1" from factory seat height and gain some comfort in one shot for fraction of the price.

Beware of geometry changes when dropping the front 1.5". Maybe it's nothing, but maybe the change in castor trail affects steering feel (shorter trail->lighter steering), and the front might clash at full bump.

I'd rather take the upholstery path.

I'd rather take the upholstery path. I got curious and lowered my front but about an inch, just to see how it would feel. Haven't ridden it yet, but it doesn't feel natural with my Corbin gunfighter seat, I'm sliding into the tank, lol.

On the bright side, your bike will now go faster because it's always going downhill. Big Grin
