CB riders review of other bikes

I'll post my reply to Paul's original thread about his experience with the CB as it doesn't seem to matter which thread we respond to and this one seems to be getting all the attention now.

Paul's opinion is just as valid as mine although they most certainly are based on different experiences with the CB.

I take absolutely no issue with anything he said about the CB. What he mentioned as CB shortcomings has been singled out in individual responses over the years here and there. He just happened to take issue with ALL of them and aggregated those in a single response and pinged it out to CB World HHQ (without warning) and the inevitable occurred.

The trick it seems is not to take his response as a direct assault/afront to our bike buying habits or personal (good) judgement. Since he and I don't know each other that was easy to do.

Truth be told I'm surprised buzziness (in the bars/hands) didn't make his list as we seem to have had a number of people that have had that complaint to the point if I remember right, they gave up on the bike.

In my case it wouldn't matter if the CB had more HP or a set of $1200 shocks bolted on the rear and the best performing cartridge set up in the front forks that money can buy. My limited riding skill set couldn't appreciate them, let alone use their increased performance potential.

I made minor changes on the bike for my personal tastes and comfort. I'm more than happy with its performance limits. I find it to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing bikes I've seen come to market in the last two decades.

Well Paul, you sure got us talking about what we like about our CB1100s and that's what this forum is about, so thanks. I personally, like the look of the bike. I was drawn to it for it's looks first. If I don't like the way something looks, I don't usually stick around for more. That's my problem. But I think the big draw of the CB1100 for me is that it is a blank canvas. You can do nothing to it and have a great bike, or you can take it in a great many directions, some easier than others. Any way you go, you have a very good bike.

That's what I was thinking. I finally solved this problem, by searching deep into this forum and other forums. Wish all this buzziness advice were in one place, like a "sticky".

I guess I have been lucky with mine; no bar buzzing, the stock seat is comfortable and I find it a nice-handling bike.

As this thread is about "Other Bikes" I will just let you know that anyone who is looking for a really nice CBX, there is one with 2000 miles on the Phoenix Craigslist. Might be considered a bit pricey at $12,700. Not my bike, not trying to sell someone else's bike, just an FYI that might help someone who wants to get one in his/her collection.

I enjoyed reading through this and all the bikes you all've owned. I wish I could remember the bikes I've had over the years, I guess I could start by making a list sometime of the ones I can remember.

I am currently looking for a CB1100. Have not laid my hands on one, much less driven one. There are none I can find here in Western PA. Closest ones are Ohio and Maryland. My first bike (at 16 after relentlessly begging my parents for week) was a 1967 white Honda Super 90. I remember the Honda ads stating "A remarkable 8 BHP!" During college years in the early 70's I moved up to a '73 CB450...Candy Red with a gold stripe on the tank. Kept until the early 80's when I went for a 1981 CB750 Custom. Had that bike for over 30 years with never an issue. For some reason I had an interest in a Harley. Bought a 2005 1200 Sportster, but never really bonded with it. Sold the Harley and got a 1979 Honda CB 750K Anniversary Edition. That bike had only 5000 miles, and looked like it just came out of the showroom, however, being over 40 years old, it just wasn't reliable. I had to be rescued by a friend with a pickup truck several times due to carb issues. Had them cleaned and re-built several times. Was afraid to ride more than 10 miles from home. Sadly, I sold it last fall.
So now, bikeless and considering a CB1100, or maybe an NT700V....neither of each I've ever seen. I wouldn't call myself an enthusiast, just always had a motorcycle. The best stress reliever for me in just taking a ride somewhere for no reason.
It's about 0 degrees here this morning, but want to be prepared for Spring.

Good luck in your search Wagonpeddler. You are (or were) not alone on this Forum. Eventually, many have obtained their long sought CB1100.
