Airbag saves a life

I know it's an older post, but anyway. A friend of mine reported some valuable insight, which I'd like to share. He bought a "relatively" simple® automatic airbag for his neck, it's used on a bicycle (where size and shape matter more). Anyway, the technology is the same as in airbag vests for motorcycles (MAV). We hadn't been in touch for a while, but when we met again I asked him about his neck-vest
And believe it or not, he reported the airbag had already "exploded" 4 times since purchase (about 2 years ago) - without any reason. Every time the company replaced the device free of charge (reading out sensors allows them to tell there had been no fall, and no reason for the thank to go off). Then again, imagine your MAV goes off without reason in dense traffic or heavy rain. If such happens with other brands too, the manufacturer may not mention it in their ads, my guess. And online "reporters" and reviewers, or test magazines will probably never find out in their afternoon long testing.
Seem there is still quite a bit to be learned about the technology ... not in a lab, out on the street.

Relative simple could be a cheap piece of equipment from a lesser quality concerned company ?

I asked the same question, but ... no joy. His answer was: certainly not, top, it's a notch company, pricey (at least no cheap copy), and on the market for several years. My personal guess: it's not poor or cheap sensors, its asking the sensors to do a job which is much less well defined than the job of a sensor in your car's airbag. Lower speed, more noise, etc.
